Closures, fees and facility work come from the BLM Safford Field Office, and that controls access no matter what any headline says. Improvement work runs through January 2027, so the site you remember may not be the site you arrive at.

BLM began a major improvement project in June 2026 and expects it to run into January 2027. The work covers camping areas, a host site, relocating the hot tubs above flood-damage risk, new or replaced vault toilets, roads and walkways, and solar and electrical improvements. The area stays open, but expect temporary impacts to campsites, toilets, trash service, roads, and the tub area itself. This is the single thing most worth checking before you tow out, because the site is genuinely changing month to month.
Arizona restrictions move quickly through the dry season and can prohibit campfires entirely even though fire rings are provided. Check the current restriction before loading firewood, not after.
Through the monsoon months, the relevant weather is often happening somewhere you cannot see. Washes flood from upstream storms. Check regional forecasts and flood watches rather than only the point forecast for the site.
Arizona 511 covers conditions on the routes through the Gila Valley and from I-10. Worth a look in monsoon season, when a normally straightforward approach can be affected by water across a road.
This place runs on grant money and volunteer effort. Cleanups and work days come up through the cool season, and they are a genuinely good way to earn some standing at a site that has stayed open on exactly that kind of goodwill.
